Finished!! – ish….

I know I have been useless at updating this recently but I have to admit I got to the point where the last thing I wanted to do with my precious spare time was to spend more time on this house – even if it was just editing photos and updating the blog. Anyway, I have had a couple of weeks away from the house now and feel much more positive – hence the update.

It is pretty much finished. We have had some parties, some friends to stay and some amazing fun. I know there is still a fair amount to do and the snagging list is an ever present notebook in my pocket but it is finished enough for us to be able to enjoy it now.

We look forward to enjoying it with you soon too.

xx

One Year On….

One year ago today we demolished Spinnakers.

Today we are on the home straight of the build and the house is looking great…. I am just very very ready for it all to be finished so I can clean the house and unpack properly but I know I am going to miss the team – and the singing – when they are gone!

Thanks boys!! xx

(Oh – and that is Riki the Bricky’s latest bit of ‘ink’ just in case you were wondering….”Skin Grows Back”….)

Neighbours & Builders Party!

On 31st July we had a crazy tidy up and threw a party to thank neighbours for putting up with our noise and mess for the last 12 months and to thank all the builders / chippies / brickies / sparks / decorators / architects / etc etc who have worked on the house. Although the house is not finished, it still worked well for a party and got well and truly trashed!! Luckily everyone stopped taking photos at about 10pm so there is no evidence!!

SO near…. yet so far…..

I know – I promised more updates and then have done nothing for weeks!! And these photos here are 3 weeks old already – but at least you are getting an update!

Doors, ceilings, bathrooms tiled – it is all happening….. and it looks great.

Thanks boys.

Getting there – and loving it!

I know, I know – it has been nearly 3 weeks since the last update but it has been busy.

Plastering done, painting and decorating has started.

The tiles are looking amazing – and loving the way you work those Marigolds Jason!

The most incredible progress these last couple of weeks has been the cedar ceiling – it is beautiful. Iain and Steve have done an unbelievable job – everyone who sees it loves it – but no one more than me. Thank you so much guys.

Exciting week this week – the kitchen starts to go in tomorrow…. watch this space…. I promise!

It has been a while….

Apologies for the amount of time passed since the last blog update – it is pretty hectic now…

But progress since last time is good.

The plastering is done, the floor tiles are going in and the kitchen is looking incredible….

The deadline is looming and the pressure is on…..

Floors

The beautiful Dinesen flooring is in. Martin and Huw sanding and trimming and plugging and sanding (and even colour-matching the timber for the plugs with the grain in the boards!) and then a coat of lye and then white soap and our beautiful floor is in. And now we have to cover it up until the house is finished so it doesn’t get damaged!

The underfloor heating is in the rest of the house and the screed is going in today. Plastering starts tomorrow and tiling next week.

All systems go – the countdown has begun!

So much has happened…

I have been particularly bad at keeping this up to date over the last couple of weeks. Loads has happened:

The scaffolding has started to come down – the unveiling begins….

The Dinesen floor arrived and had to be manhandled up in to the house – and then moved over and over and over again as it was always in the way – sorry boys!

The roof terrace is waterproof.

The cedar cladding is starting inside and looks brilliant.

We have a staircase now which makes a lovely change from ladders.

We have underfloor heating laid on the first floor – and a large amount of bacofoil-looking insulation.

And today we turned the first floor into a giant sandpit to help with the underfloor heating before the Dinesen started to be laid.

It is really exciting to see the Dinesen going down – it is going to be a killer floor.

And now for 2 weeks of photos…… You have been warned….

Another day…

Just a quick update to show the lovely cedar cladding on the balcony ceiling….

And the pipes for the air-source heat exchange black magic’ box go in…

And the insulation goes on the roof terrace… (Trendy – Mind that tin of nasty stuff when you pop out…. (Apologies everyone – a private joke with my mother!)

And ‘SUNNIE ROCKS’!! (Steve’s son made us a sign so that he gets a shout on the blog!)

Wires and wood

First fix electrics this week – it looks like someone has exploded a grey spaghetti bomb inside the house. It is quite staggering how much there is – and how stressful it is trying to work out if you have got everything you want – and in the right place…..

And the boys continue to do an incredible job on the cedar – including creating a killer frame on the terrace doors – Thanks boys, I love it!
